How to exit back to Workbench?

I'm using a harddrive and although I've read that Print Screen will return me to the workbench (and that this is mapped to * on the Numpad), I am using a Macbook Pro with no numpad.

Can anyone help?

Do you mean while using WHDLoad? Usually F10 is used to quit back to WB, but have a look at the splashscreen or check the readme for the used quitkey.

maybe hes trying to find out how to map a key to another key on his keyboard, some whdload games do use that key.
although im not totally sure going by what been said.

He's referring to WHDLoad.

You can use "QUITKEY=" tooltype to change the quitkey. See WHDLoad documentation.

Thanks StingRay, and all. Where is the config file located? The doc isn't clear on whether I need to specify this argument when I run WHDLoad to create the local copy of the game or in a config file somewhere.

globale config file you find in S:whdload.prefs
and example you can find here.
rawcodes for the QUITKEY you can find here.

if you edit whdload.prefs, the quitkeyline should look ( $59 is F10 ):
before:
;QuitKey=$59 ;rawkey code to quit
edited:
QuitKey=$59 ;rawkey code to quit

for a single game you can change QUITKEY if you use the icon-information window. select the start-icon of the game and then choose from menu "icons - information".
here you can change the QUITKEY for this single game. when changing the value, press return in the line you edit, in this icon-information window. then press "save".

edit: added screenshot - just an example, on how / where to change icon-information / tooltypes
just look at the quitkey line. everything else may be different .)

Put the whdload.prefs then into the folder of the FS-UAE Launcher.exe and you can set a global quit key described above. If you intend to use the FS-UAE database too.

emufan, thanks so much. That did the trick and took me out of my anguish. I thought with my linux background I'd have it figured out in no time but it's been hours now

Retro-Nerd, I haven't heard of the database before. It sounds useful, thanks for the suggestion. Putting .prefs beside the executable didn't work. Maybe it's different for Mac.

If you use a WB setup the whdload.prefs indeed belongs into the s: folder. The online+Launcher database is still beta, but you can register an account. Please read this thread for more.
