F/A-18 Interceptor
Has any progress been made over the Java codewheel for F/A-18 from the posts from a year ago ?
I uncovered my 2 (yes TWO) codewheels for F/A-18 and wondered if whats needed to scan THESE ? Maybe a Visual basic program that tells you the code for the game (poorly coded if i did it). Any suggestions ? |

No, we don't have the codewheel scanned.
What we were planning is to get these codewheels, same them as PNG with the holes in each one set to transparent, then a VRML script would combine them, and let you rotate them. All very nice and open standards. This VRML can then be adapted (if needed) for each codewheel, or (hopefully) just for each number of layers. This has not been started yet, because we have not yet done scans for a game that need it. Some program that gives you the answers is convenient, but not really my idea of what should go along with the actual game... We do have a copy of the F/A-18 manual fully OCR'ed. But it is not the "real thing" (OCR) and the front page scan is not very good quality (it wasn't done for CAPS mind you) - so we plan to do it again. |

Well,
I can "Sacrifice" one of the codewheels for scanning...., and as far as the manual etc, That can be my next CAPS project How do I set the Codewheel holes to be transparent once scanned ? Killing Game Show manual has been upped. [edit] One codewheel "Sacrificed" and scanned Last edited by whiteb; 09 December 2003 at 00:46. |

Excellent!
Don't worry about making things transparent - we can do that. Also, please keep the images in some kind of lossless format like TIFF/PNG - not JPG. Thanks! |

I have a version of the codewheel but it's falling to pieces, it ended up having a biro stuffed through the middle, and never seemed to work very well after that.

go to the OUTER RIM and find "F" Go to the MIDDLE RIM and find 3, Turn the middle rim till the 3 is Below "F" Go to the INNER RIM and find 4, turn the inner rim till 4 appears below the previous "F3", so in sequence it reads F34. then the LAST in the sequence, "D" will be on the face of the inner wheel, in this case, "F34D" will require.... 40131 to be inputted into the game. [edit] let me get this straight, you couldnt figure the codewheel out, but could land the plane on the Aircraft carrier ? Last edited by whiteb; 11 December 2003 at 23:09. |
