PSX or PSone?

I've got some stuff at home that has to go (mostly books, CDs and other garbage), I was deciding which Playstation units to keep - PSX's or PSones?

PSX is bigger, for most of the people uglier, its got FMV skipping issue, but I like it more. PSone looks cheap to me, CD lid and whole PSone is not sturdy as PSX, has no reset button, both PSone units I have were made in China (PSX's are from Japan), for all these reasons PSX is the one I like more and will keep.

Which one you like more? PSX or PS1?

I'd keep PSone and get rid of PSX, unless you need exhibits in video games museum.

I have two of each... long story... but I much prefer the original PSX - much more of a classic and it has the ever so useful link up possibilities... :-)

PSX for sure, PSone looks like a cheap plastic toy.

As for FMV skipping and load issues, flipping it upside down always took care of that for me.

PSX always and forever!
PSOne looks like a soap dish, PSX has that awesome aggressive design.

PSX all along. I wasn't even aware of FMV skipping issues. I had 2 PSX that never had those problems, at least to my eye.

Agree the PSX is a nicer machine especially if its one of the early ones with the parallel port

Yeah, I've got one (modded) with parallel port. Can it be used for something else than for cheat devices?

PSX looks wise but its worth keeping the psone incase you go somewhere as its more portable.

If neither are chipped then the PSX can use a cartridge modchip where the PSOne cannot.

I read somewhere that most of the games check the protection three or four times and the swap trick is almost impossible to perform. Or the game checks the protection during the game (Thrill Kill).

My old SCPH-1002 can play imports/backups without modchip.
I used to use the cdplayer trick before I installed a modchip.

PSOne looks like one of those kiddy machines to me.

Note: I had a PSX since 1996 onwards so I'm probably biased.

The skipping issue was mainly on the earlier (1002, 5502) models. The 7x02 and 9002 pretty much did away with this problem.

I have a VCD/MP3 player and an MP3 player that uses these ports. The popularity of the AR carts caused Sony to release the 9002 sans port.

The cheat devices could be reprogrammed into modchips.

I saw a Psone with a built in lcd screen in the cd lid at cash converters. The graphics looked pretty good on the small screen. I thought it was a home made hack. Apparantly not? Thought it looked pretty cool.

The PSOne has a bad build quality (looks like a toy), but surely a better CD-Rom drive. Never had any problems with it.
