Cybervision 64/3d repair (macro pr0n for Z and others)

I bought a faulty CV64/3d from Jiffydos on amiga.org. It had been buchered by someone packaging it back to back with another card, so had scratches on the PCB...

From a quick inspection, 3 pins on the s3 chip were also duffed in: they were shorting to other pins, and they were disconnected from their pads.

These were *damned* fiddly!! Scalpel and a fine pointer thingy (technical workshop term there) were employed.

Then the PCB... Two bits were easy. The last one was a complete sod!

About 5mm was missing completely, and running close to 2 other traces. By close, I mean that all 3 were within 1mm which is right at the tolerance of my eyesight, skill and patience!

The scandoubler works, but only when it is being physically bent in a particular way suggesting a dry joint or similar. I've removed the VGA connector and checked everything: one SMD device has no continuity over it. Other similar devices show <1ohm resistance.

The one in question is on the bottom of the board, just to the right and above the right edge of the edge connector...

I'm guessing that this is a ferrite bead, but any ideas how to find out what its impedance at a certain frequency is?

Thanks Chain. It's currently replaced by a strand of wire - probably not the right approach, but I'll see if it works once I get another PCB mountable VGA connector!

Is it now fully repaired?

If you live anywhere in the Oxford area I could arrange for some help.

Thanks Alex. The main board is now perfect, but the scandoubler is needing a new VGA PCB connector... And possibly the right SMD component, but I've simply put a wire across the 2 terminals . Possibly not great for RF or noise.

I'm in West Yorkshire, not really near Oxford... But thanks for the thoughts!

Can any games on the Amiga use the 3D deceleration of the S3 Dirge on the CV64/3D?

Are there 68k versions of software that uses Warp3D or are they all PPC?

ADescent68k : Amiga Descent for 68k & Warp3D
BlitzQuake_68k : GLquake & GLqwcl for 68K & Warp3D

These were the only two I could find, 5fps no doubt?

Oooo

Vague Diskmag for 68k Warp3D

AND

Payback Warp3D also... I wonder what that's like?

I realise there's two threads going on here, so apologies for that. This is for the pictures

Anyhow, I've soldered my new VGA connector on and simply bridged the bead...

SUCCESS!

Happy Chiark here

Thanks for the kind words
Yes, I'll see what I Can find for Warp3d, however I don't have a PPC, merely a warpengine 40

There are 68k versions of the demos and games I mentioned linked above. You should see some hardware 3D screens if you're lucky.

Probably Descent at 320x400 is the only one that works somewhat well when on over 320x200/240 screens.
