You do realize that many of these crackers were young teenagers from non-English speaking countries... Therefore, I'm more impressed by how Universal the use of English was, rather than the poor quality of English used.

Don't like to say this, but....... Isn't English an international language. Doesn't mean I'm saying everyone has to speak it or learn it. I can't say this in a positive way 'cause I'm English anyway, so I'll leave it up to all those who's native language is other than English

English is today's Lingua Franca, especially when it comes to anything computer related. Oh and it even was back in the late 80's and 90's. Furthermore if you write the title of a game wrong, that isn't really about knowing english or not This should be a fun thread and now this turns into something like 'Why did this poor guys got it wrong'...

Well, I suspect that some members of the cracking groups worked with the post/hand delivery/phone and only the releaser would have a modem (probably like that until up into the 90's).

So you can still have fun imagining how they would communicate and how the errors could get in, notably if members where from different countries and resorted to English (not native speakers):

[to be read with a foreign English accent]
'Hey dude, can you make a cracktro for our next release? It's a game called errr let's me check...Turrican.

'Tu ricanes? That's some silly name. Can you repeat please, I must have misheard.'
[in French, Turrican sounds exactly as 'Tu ricanes' which means 'you giggle']

[Now read that one imagining the guy has a cold and speak through his nose]
'Yeah, it's Turrican'
'Turicon? Ok, I'm on it'

Also, you can have a good load of fun if you inspect the first screenshot a bit and see that the team making the Distroyer crack are the Southampton (England) team

Well TCD, I'll be killing two birds with one stone tonight etc. I'm going to run the cracktros, see if there are any that FAIL and upload the screenshots here. I'll also rip the music from the cracktro where I can using WinUAE I'll be naming them in the same way as Mai has done just to keep them the same

Where can I get a list of short names/abbreviated names for cracking groups I already know there is this thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=20793, but I'm after a list rather than having to search through the whole thread, again and again

Well there is Bippy's list in post #4 (maybe the one he posted on the last page has some additions already). mai's additions aren't in the list, but maybe he has made one for personal use and you could ask him to share it

Nice stuff TCD

Already on bippy's list and he hasn't got any abbreviations for the ones I've already done, yet! so I'll just use there proper names for now. Anyway, I've got this cracktro, I've got the song name for it, it says it's a 'crack intro' within it, but I can't find out what game, if any, it was used for. What do I do?

If there is no game name in the cracktro the only chance would be to check every release by the group... Guess in this case you could just leave out the game name then

You can use this abbreviations,
but is not valid for [TOSEC].

Cheers Mai, but wouldn't it be better to do the abbreviations that are valid for TOSEC, I would much prefer it.
