AWeb has killed my OS 3.9 install
In a fit of madness I decided to install AWeb on my 1200 last night. After the reboot I found that my system was somewhat stuffed. After some investigation (I'm a newbie BTW), I discovered that the GUI system (ClassAct) used by AWeb is older than the GUI system (ReAction) used by OS 3.5+.
What a pain in the bottom ![]() Any easy fix or do I have to re-install OS 3.9 (again). ![]() |

I guess a quick "copy the newer file over the older file" should do the trick

Do you know which ones I need to replace from the OS 3.9 CDROM or is it better just to run the whole install + BB's.

Sorry, no idea.
When you've said about one older and one newer file, I figured you knew. It's been a while since I've checked the OS3.9 drawer structure (that I own meself) so I can't help, but I guess it's all a matter of searching for the right file. Something named *.class? I'm sure it is *THERE* somewhere... ![]() |

Maybe try this:
Look at the folders in the AWeb install package & identify the Classes there. Find the alternative folder on your 3.9 CD & simply copy the files back over to your HDD, allowing it to replace any of the same name. I don't know squat about Amiga software...but it *might* work ![]() PZ. |

It's all such a pain, it would have been really helpful if a massive warning message came up that said 'DO NOT INSTALL THIS SUCKER IF YOU ARE RUNNING OS 3.5+'

Why don't you simply forget your floppy disks and install the latest version of AWeb which is free now ? It does not come with back-leveled classes.

![]() Thanks for the link though ![]() I had to re-install 3.9 last night to fix the problem. Is AWeb the best browser to use with a 1200/030 50mhz/64mb/AGA? Last edited by NovaCoder; 03 March 2009 at 23:27. |

As always in the Amiga community, if only two parties of some kind exist, it's a matter of taste or religion which one is considered best. The concepts are quite different. |

Hi Nova,
It would seem the latest versions of iBrowse & AWeb were released in the same year. I never could get AWeb to work well (or even at all on my A1200T), but after a few teething problems (easy fixes, I#m just retarded), it is now VERY reliable & very compatible with most sites ![]() So yeah, my vote is for iBrowse...in fact I am posting this message with it! Shame you cannot buy registration keys anymore, but hey, they are out there ![]() PZ. |

Origyn works fantastically on my Efika (MorphOS), but seems like it'd be pretty bloody resource-hungry on 68k-based machine
![]() I might be wrong though...give it a shot & let us know ![]() PZ. |

You don't need a device, you even don't need a TCP/IP stack. Just enable bsdsocket emulation on the Misc page and run you favourite internet app (e.g. OWB).
If you like, you can install winpcap on Windows, then disable bsdsocket and enable uaenet. Then you can install a TCP/IP stack and choose uaenet.device. |

HI there!
![]() I'm closely following Novacoder's networking troubles as I'm right now also fighting against Easynet and a MMA401 wireless card. I couldn't make my A1200 make friends with my PC yet (no file transferring, still on it ^_^'), but the things is somehow working as the live update did its job and downloaded its stuff through my PC Internet connection. Then I tried to install AWeb... and found myself in the reverse problem as exposed here. I mean, my A1200 is a 3.1 ROM-3.1 WB system, so Aweb requires the Classact files. I downloaded them from Aminet, but Aweb seems to dislike the button.gadget file for no aparent reason (says it couldn't open it, snoopdos confirms the action "failed", but button.gadget is in its right place ->"classes/gadgets/"). This happened with version 3.5 beta, the one included in Amigakit's Easynet CD-ROM. I tried with 3.4 from Aweb site with the very same result. Any suggestion what to check next? ![]() -- |
