Most IDE CDRom Drives work properly, even newer ones ! As the Driver goes, there are plenty but most of them are commercial and still sold but you can try AmiCDFS (Aminet, freeware) ....

Yeah. Just buy an IDE CD drive. I have a Creative 24x.
You may also want to invest in a 4-way IDE buffered interface, so allowing further IDE devices to be added after HD and CD. Try Power Computing or Eyetech. £20 or so. My interface came from Eyetech, and included IDEFix (drivers) by Elaborate Bytes. That was in 1998, so what you end up with will probably be cooler! Perhaps take a look to see what is on offer... Edit: Link to Eyetech: http://www.eyetech.co.uk/search.php?...SearchCat=ADIN Last edited by blackcornflake; 15 April 2002 at 16:24. |

As a point of interest where can I get those drivers from. I have an early Eyetech IDE buffer card but I inherited the item with no drivers. Infact I never knew it even needed drivers!
The new (new to me anyway) Amiga should be turning up in the next week so I guess it would be a good idea to get this sorted. |

Problem for me attaching a drive to my 1200 would be that I have no other case to put it in and I don't want a half disassembled A1200. And I think RAM or HD space upgrade would come before it anyway.

@jimbro1000: Ah, so the hardware no prob? OK - just visit Aminet and go to disk/cdrom directory, or enter a Search string like 'IDEFix' or 'AmiCDFS'.
Result: List of relevant items for download. Get anything you think you may need, put Amiga together, install and try software! Pick the one you like best. As RetroMan said, AmiCDFS is freeware. IDEFix is shareware. It is an entire suite of software. CacheCDFS is the CD-ROM bit. Important - Read all guides! |

I got lucky on that front - we were throwing some old laptops out at work (defunct) so I rescued the hard drives from them. I now have a nice 1.3Gb and an even nicer 4Gb drive to install :-)
I even dug out some 4Mb simms for when I get the accelerator board.... |
