Vista - 85Hz refreshrate max
Hi,
I once managed to get higher when i installed the new catalyst 7.3 but now i'm again stuck at 85Hz. The 'ati driver panel' and 'windows graphic modes' show higher refresh rates but WinUAE does not. Enumeration problem on my side only or not yet 100% vista ready? Tested on: WinUAE v1.4.1 and v1.4.2 beta1 Vista32 Radeon9700 - Catalyst 7.3 |

I *think* that's the drivers problem - I've had such with the newest nvidia beta drivers, but if You have everything else in win with a better refresh rate, then... Toni?

Yep.. maybe a driver problem. Catalyst 7.3 is the first driver that removed the 1600x1200@85Hz barrier at least somewhere (desktop resolutions). Previous catalyst versions had more aggressive restrictions (no chance to get above 1600 or 85Hz - no matter if app or desktop). Maybe ati is indeed not yet ready...
But i've seen WinUAE working correctly with 7.3 so somehow it may work nevertheless... Edit: I'm sure those brackets around 100Hz and 120Hz once were gone. But read this... The refresh rates with brackets around (100Hz, 120Hz) *do* work if i select them (50Hz doesn't work though - not included in driver). So just a cosmetic problem now. But they are not enumerated by WinUAE in the log file. Last edited by NoX1911; 05 April 2007 at 19:53. |

Driver problem.
Other programs may use other means to enumerate them, I think there is at least 2 (perhaps even 3) ways to enumerate available refresh rates.. btw, you said Radeon 9700 but it says Radeon 9500 in the log |

A cosmetic problem only as well.
It is a softmodded radeon (R300@8Pipes@256bit=9700). I'm just too lazy to change those strings everytime. |

Great. That's the Vista final, official beta non-beta final drivers, for the final home user :/
Funny thing with nvidia... In the 1st, build-in Vista graph drivers, the refresh rate was ok, I got 140Hz in 1024x768. Then, changed to the "officials" released on march the 2nd, and i could "only" select 120Hz for 1024x768... After a while, checked the beta drivers. They've finally managed to workout the antialiasing/anizotropic filtering and the blackness of the logo shown there, but... I couldn't even get 100Hz in 640x480 :[ Still waiting for the classic options menu with the refresh rate control override selection panel, damn :/ |
