No HDF boot without Fast RAM

If I use an A1200 configuration (based on a quickstart configuration) without Fast RAM, it will not boot to HDF (HDF is 32MB with basic install of Workbench 3.1). A soft reset at the Kickstart screen works. Add Fast RAM and it works as well.

Sorry if this has been covered. I figured I'd report it for completeness. I had another person on IRC test, and he/she/it recieved the same results.

AFAIK, I don't have any special buffers set. (I'm not sure how you adjust buffers on a HDF in WinUAE).

BTW, directories have the same problem. And, the problem is not limited to bootable disks. Without fast memory configured, or a soft reset, the hard drives do not show up.

I can confirm it. But happens only if JIT is enabled and only after WinUAE has just been started.

To reproduce:

- Run WinUAE
- select A1200 from Quickstart
- go to CPU panel and disable "24 bit addressing" (see note 1 below)
- go to Harddrives panel and add a HDF (with RDB).
- click on start -> works

- stop WinUAE and run it again
- A1200 is still selected on quickstart panel (see note 2)
- go to CPU panel and disable "24 bit addressing"
- enable JIT
- go to Harddrives panel and add a HDF (same as above).
- click on start -> kickstart screen

Try again without JIT -> works again, enable JIT on the fly -> still works.
Try again with JIT -> does not work. Disable JIT on the fly -> still does not boot.

Adding Fast RAM or Z3 Fast helps. Adding Slow RAM (which should suit as fast RAM for AmigaOS) does not help.

note 1: I only have Cloanto ROMs (Kick 3.1 from A4000). Quickstart's A1200 selects this and clicking on Start brings a message "your kickstart needs a 68020". Going to the CPU panel, 68020 is already choosen. This is irritating. You have to uncheck "24bit addressing" to get a full 68020. The message should reflect this.

note 2: selecting another config from Quickstart on the fly (both in "start with quickstart" and with "set config") does not reset the config. The emulator window stays open and HDFs etc. stay configured. IMHO choosing a new config from Quickstart should have the same effect like loading another config from the configs page.

note 3: the HDD gadget in WinUAE's window frame does not show activity although the Amiga boots from HDD. Neither do the floppy gadgets, only the track number changes when you insert an ADF.

Quick answer: Since Windows XP, these kinds of controls stopped responding to SB_SETTEXT-message's SBT_POPOUT-type. Nothing in MSDN, they simple do not work anymore..

Had a look on SBT_POPOUT myself recently. Nothing useful anywhere about it seeming not working. I think it's more a problem of the XP designs/visual styles, because when you change the design to Windows Classic , it works as intended. Maybe there are other designs where it does work, I don't know.
