AmigActive folds!
Yes folks it's true, the world's best-selling Amiga magazine, AmigActive, has folded. See the story on amiga.org for details. 'Tis a sad day indeed for the Amiga community.

Well ok, they´re dropping the CLASSIC AMIGA stuff but I think for an up-to-date mag it´s very important to keep up-to-date and so they think the future lies in AmigaDE and such stuff .... I think they´re just trying to keep all jobs to continue a magazine, I think that´s the only way to survive for them in these days ...

Crap. Maybe I should've bought all those issues after all (even though I don't have a PPC Amiga or an Amiga CD-ROM drive ). Wasn't that like the last UK Amiga magazine in existence? It was the last one standing after Amiga Format (the longest running Amiga magazine in existence) folded ages ago. Come to think of it, now I wish I bought EVERY single issue of AF...

I bought every issue from #3 (first one to make it to Australia) onwards...
Good thing I didn't subscribe though...because I suspect I won't be wanting "digital"...biggest problem of AmigActive was that they had too much stuff which really had nothing at all to do with the AmigaDE, let alone the AmigaOS. I would have rather they had more detailed reviews/tutorials/etc. instead of wasting space on some of the "NextGen Watch" crap. Bloody vapourware. If they have reduced AmigaOS content still further, that's the end for me, I'm not paying $18 for a couple of pages at most of AmigaOS content. There was heaps of good things they could have used the pages for, I would even have preferred more of the "retro" stuff if that's all they could fill the pages with. What do others think? |

Shame it folded really, I bought a couple of the issues, but I wish it did not have the cdrom which upped the price beyond the realm of the casual Amiga Fan. I think 2 types should have been released ie one without the CdRom for a couple of pounds and the full version for the hardcore Amigan.
End on an era yet again. |
