How to play st samples on Linux

Hi all,

I downloaded the famous ST samples from archive.org [1]

I would like to play them on my linux machine, just for fun.

I tried with aplay without success, this is the exact command I used:

Code:

aplay -c 1 -t raw -f U8 -r 8000 letsdoit

Where "letsdoit" is the file name.

I hear a very distorted sound.

The output of the command "file letsdoit" is

Code:

letsdoit: IFF data, 8SVX 8-bit sampled sound voice

How may I play those files on my Linux operating system?

Try ffplay from the ffmpeg package.

Code:

$ ffplay -codecs | grep 8svx
D.AIL. 8svx_exp             8SVX exponential
D.AIL. 8svx_fib             8SVX fibonacci

MilkyTracker is able to load these samples (raw and 8svx). Download the AppImage to try without installation.

When running, select Samples -> Load (top right on screen).
Uncheck "Type Filter"
Press and hold 's' to play that sample.

Use Alt-Enter to switch to full screen and back.
