rom.key required - where from ?
Few years ago I had WinUAE setup with games and WHDLoad etc all running happily..... then lost that config/HDF.
Now I'm trying to redo it all, and I keep getting a message for a rom.key What am I missing ? My Amiga Forever install does not contain a rom.key file Will be something straight forward.... Have Googled but getting conflicting info. |

The roms in the latest Amiga Forever are no longer encrypted, you don't need the rom.key anymore.

I suspect my Amiga Forever is still encrypted - was purchased a few years ago - so how do I get around it without buying latest version ?

Amiga Forever runs in Express mode utilizing a rom.key when unregistered according to its site. When registered the roms are not encrypted anymore and I guess the rom.key file is deleted.

A lot depends on exact versions of AF ; you can tell if the roms are encoded by looking for the "AMIROMTYPE1" header. Newer version of AF require you to run the amigaforever.exe once, to decrypt the rom files.

It does not really matter if the ROMs are encrypted or not. The rom.key file is in the same directory as all the .rom files. If it is there, copy it along with the .rom files. If it is not there, you don't need it.
The path is either D:\Amiga Files\Shared\rom on the CD or C:\Users\Public\Documents\Amiga Files\shared\rom after installation. WinUAE will find the latter automatically if AF is installed. |

Not sure what kind of work you think Cloanto are doing, repackaging and selling a free emulator, nor how that keeps anything alive.
