Hello from Somerset
Having cut my micro teeth on a BBC back in the day I have been collecting other Acorn products but I thought it was time for something different.
I've recently acquired an Amiga A500. It is very clean and even had (past tense) intact guarantee labels. It was fitted with the ubiquitous A501 and, you guessed it, the battery had leaked and made it right across the board. After careful checking of both computer and psu I fired it up (without the A501) via a GBS8200 and LCD monitor that I already have but the workbench disks only got so far before giving up. I connected a Gotek and successfully got a workbench. The first time I tried it with the A501 (sans battery) it did fire up and using AmigaTestKit I managed to do a memory test which showed some problems on the A501. Sadly it no longer boots with the A501 installed, it looks like it goes into a reboot loop so work to do. That's enough waffle for now. I'll raise specific posts if I get stuck with something... |

Welcome to EAB! I had a similar problem with a 512K RAM as well! I'd imagine that there is something which causes abnormal electrical activity/current through the RAM and kills one/more of them. The only way to really know is if you remove the RAM chips and then test them 1 by 1 ...
