Dragon's Lair memory requirements

On the cover of the Dragon's Lair box, it mentions that A500/2000 require 1MB of memory but A1000 only needs 512kB.

Anybody have an idea as to the technical reason for the difference?

The A2000 and IIRC later A500's were released with 1MB standard chipram so it would be an acknowledgement of that. I had an A1000 512k and it ran fine on that too.

A500 didn't come with 1MB of RAM until the A500Plus in 1991. Dragon's Lair was released in 1989.

Tested in WinUAE that the game does not load on a 512kB A500 config, but does load on 1MB.

Just curious what allows the game to run on an A1000 with only 512kB.

The game requires 768 KB of RAM.

On the A1000 it uses the special 256KB WCS RAM which is normally used by the KickStart 'ROM'.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that.

Did many other games use this memory on the A1000?

Probably Dragon's Lair is an exception.
I can't think of any other titles, should be checked old manuals to see if there is special support for A1000.

I haven't read every Amiga manual that I added to HOL thoroughly, but I've skimmed through most of them and can't recall any mention of a lower memory requirement for the A1000. I would think it is a quite unique feature.

I too knew that A1000s had RAM for their KS and I had (somewhere) heard that some games that require 512KB ChipRAM + 512KB other RAM on A500 can work on A1000 with only 512K ChipRAM.

This information is not linked to Dragon's Lair in my brain but it might have been this threads from 2, 4 & 5 years ago which note that A-Max on A1000 also can use WCS.
