Did it solve your original problem in the game (and is it run from WB or not)?

I'm running 3.1 and I had Cocolino and Freewheel installed for the previous (PS2) mouse with a Cocolino adaptor. I don't think I still have the Cocolino software, but it is installed - is it freeware?

Yes, without any drivers running, the Tikus works like a normal 2 button Amiga mouse - and yes, it fixes the problem I had with not being able to scroll the map in Steel Empire (WHDLoad).

I'm just frustrated that I don't seem to be able to get the middle button/scrollwheel working, despite the fact that it worked with the previous mouse/adaptor.

Solution: OK, so another few hours gone from my lifetime.

I tested all the adapters in my spreadsheet except Micromys (driver) which I will conclude from the test work like the others:

Just get the specific mouse driver for the adapter and then FreeWheel will work automatically. The wrong driver will give MMB clicks on LMB (which with FreeWheel will switch screen) and spurious stuff like you're experiencing. (So if you leave the Cocolino driver in there it will probably mess stuff up even if you install the correct one. Just comment it out in s:User-Startup.)

>> To confirm correct mouse drivers (and for some adapters maybe also "adapter mode" just run RawKeys. Great program!

So e.g. here >> on the TIKUS product page follow instructions, and TankMouse.lha is the driver.

Tested with:
  • Cocolino original driver (my disk had driver v1.3) + old non-HID mouse (obviously)
  • HID2AMI with driver from Github + old non-HID mouse and the 2 winners of the test (HID mice with DPI memory)
  • TIKUS with the 2 winners of the test (HID mice with DPI memory)

That's it!
