Music-X 2.0 - Possible to request an app to be WHDLoad?
Any chance of a WHDLoad version of Music-X 2.0? I couldn't seem to find any rules about applications here, though the title of the forum is 'Games images which need to be WHDified'....

I don't see the point, it should be compatible anyway and thus not need a slave.
An app running under WHDLoad will not be able to multitask or otherwise interact with anything running outside of WHDLoad, which limits its usefulness in this situation. |

I'd see an useful usage for an old application requiring kick 1.3 for instance. Or not liking 32-bit fastmem, something like that. Otherwise, you're globally right. Display would be limited to PAL/NTSC (dblpal maybe) so no gfx boards, no switch back to WB (or definite quit), limited file access... It would require good reasons to "virtualize" apps. |

Thanks for the input guys. I own Music-X 2.0 (and 1.0 and 1.1 version) original disks and I'm able to run the programs just fine in my Amiga. Just not able to run it with my accelerator card using ClassicWB.
I was trying to think of some way to use Music-X with my accelerator card and CF card so I can easily move samples from my PC to the card and use within Music-X, without the floppy hassle. I do have a SD Floppy Emulator and can work the old way with real floppies or emulated ones so it's fine as it is. Just popped up in my head and wondered about this kind of option. In my case I would not need any MIDI connectivity, it would be composing manually using mouse and samples saved to disk. But again, I have no clue what is or is not possible so completely trust those of you familiar with all of this. Feel free to delete or move this thread or whatever needed if it doesn't belong here. |

I hate to reply to an old thread, but I have this same specific problem, and it's driving me nuts. WHDLoad seems like probably not what I want, since I'm wanting more WB3.1 access/support while running the program, not less.
I haven't determined yet what the secret sauce is that allows Music-X 2.0 to run when booted from its floppy but not from the hard drive, but I can attest, that's the case. I have an A3000 with KS/WB3.1, and it works perfectly when booted from its own floppy, including even being able to see all my partitions. I don't have my Picasso video driver available though, even when I switch to the Workbench screen, and the boot floppy puts me in a WB1.3 environment. But the program itself works perfectly. I've tried putting everything on the floppy in a hard drive directory and giving it an assign in user-startup with the same name as the floppy. It still gives a software alert and crashes the machine after the splash screen. The interesting thing is, the author intended it to be able to run from the hard drive, and even provided an HD installer on the second floppy -- but there's something about Workbench 3.1 that it can't stand. It can't be the CPU, because if it were that, I'd presumably have the same 030 problem when booting from the floppy. |

I hate to be negative - maybe let one of the Non professionals handle this - if slaves are created for everything including stuff that doesn't really need it you open yourself up to a whole load of bug reports.
At a guess just a missing library etc - I guess a Generic slave could be used. what happens when people start trying to load music stuff from disk etc. Presumably at the most crudest!! Mount RAD: transdisk Music-X > RAD: boot, will work. Last edited by Retro1234; 30 June 2024 at 21:10. |
