MiamiDX or Ariadne-II dropping connection. [SOLVED]

Getting a bit annoyed here.

Trying to make a backup of my A4000 harddrive through Amiga Explorer to my main PC, choosing the hardfiles.

After some time I lose the connection for some reason. It can take 15 minutes or it can take an hour. MiamiDX still says it's online but the connection is down.

I've checked all settings and it should never disconnect as it's configured. So, I'm at a loss as to why.

All I can think of right now is that my Ariadne-II is overheating and causing the issue. Besides that I have no clue.

It's not due to overheating. Opened the case to get better ventilation but that didn't make any difference.

Gonna try the MNI driver instead of Sana-II

I had this issue with Amiga Explorer before, which i wanted to use for the same reason of backup of my own A4000 to Windows 10 PC. Using Miami and an USB NIC on my Deneb. The Amiga connexion is perfectly steady with no problem.
But Amiga Explorer was really slow and finally dropped connection. The support team from Cloanto could not find a solution and finally they refunded my the software as it was useless.

I don't think the Ariadne is at fault. Even if it is not a really fast card, it is simple design with no known issue.

Well, I've tried with the MNI driver now and so far it seems to be a lot more steady and also a little bit faster. We'll see how it turns out.

If I had had an IDE port in my PC I could just have moved the drive but I don't, to modern for that.

Been rock solid now and I've copied half of the partitions. So, the problem was the SANA-II driver, with the MNI one everything seems to work perfectly.

Problem solved.

Sounds like you got it working but you could also try Roadshow, might give better speed.

Doubtful if Miami is the reason of the low speed since I get decent speed with Ibrowse and FTP. More likely Amiga Explorer that's the issue there.

But every little bit helps of course.

You can accelerate Amiga Explorer a lot if you increase block size. By default it is set to 512. It becomes much faster if you set it to 32768. IIRC you have to change it on both ends, that is in the AExplorer tooltypes on the Amiga as well as in the Amiga Explorer properties on Windows.

That's kinda hard when I want to make backups of the Amiga HDD.

Not the HDD block size. The size of data blocks transferred by AE. Check tooltypes (icon information) and properties as mentioned.

Code:
CONNECTION=AUTO
SERDEVICE=serial.device
SERUNIT=0
SERBAUD=19200
TCPLIBRARY=bsdsocket.library
TCPPASSWORD=AExplorer
TCPCLIENT=AUTO
TCPSERVER=AUTO
PACKETSIZE=512       <====
RETRIES=50
OVERRIDEPROTECTION=NO
ADFVERIFY=YES
LOGGING=NO
LOGFILE=T:AEXPL_A.LOG
QUIET=NO
DONOTWAIT
UNIT=0
