FS-UAE on Ubuntu 24.04 not working

None of the install options seem to work, neither the repositories nor the SNAP versions on offer. The two issues are:
1. The launcher doesn't load, period
2. The emulation, when started directly seems really slow, like its limping along in some "compatibility" mode due to something it should be using to produce an acceptable frame rate

I've seen the post about the flat-pack option working, but I'd rather avoid adding yet another install and update process on top of snaps and native packages. It's just about tolerable having two as it is

flatpak im afraid is the only good option, also wasnt aware people still used snap? its usually the first thing i see ubuntu users remove due to its frequent exploit / security problems.

FS-UAE works for me on Ubuntu 24.04. I installed it with just "apt install fs-uae" and launch it by typing "fs-uae" in the terminal.

Are you using a Kickstart ROM file, or is it defaulting to the AROS default ROM? The latter can be slow or buggy.

The OP is after the launcher primarily ~ as that is now becoming very dated (as in, out-of-step with current distros' libraries etc), and thus the only way that works is via flatpack (which bundles everything required to make it work).

If you're not married to fs-uae, and want a more recent UAE core (and working GUI), I'll suggest amiberry v6.3.3 (although it's not a package, you can just extract the archive into a directory in your $HOMEDIR and it's all self contained, and won't fuzt with your system =)

Have you tried launching the launcher from a terminal? This may give you more info on why it isn't starting up.

When launching the emulator directly do you get any messages at the bottom of the emulation window? It will often warn of potential performance issues. (such as the CPU scaling governor being set to powersave mode).

What specs are the machine?
