Populous 2 WHDLoad problems

Does a working version of populous 2 for whdload exist?

I’ve tried 4 different versions for various sources but non work properly, 1 won’t install, 2 versions of the game plays too fast and the other black screens randomly but plays at the correct speed ?

Blacks out ? Like stutters every once in a while ?
If so, is PRELOAD tool type enabled and do you have sufficient fast ram to preload the game ?

yeah probably missing preload issue. Game is made of insane number of small files. Without PRELOAD it probably flashes like crazy.

I’m sure I tried both of them but they played too fast. I’ll double check tomorrow though.

plays too fast: check the version of the .slave (what is displayed in the splash screen window, which version).

preinstalled packs sometimes have outdated slaves. Happens all the time.

Mine doesn't, at least not if grabbed from the constantly updated packs on the ftp.

Mileage may vary if from whdownload.com (which I have nothing to do with).

I have the same problem. Populous II installed with latest WHDLoad slave. There is a "disable speed regulation" option on the splash screen but checking or unchecking it doesn't change anything. Game is too fast. I am now on level 193 and it's impossible to play. My Amiga is A1200 + 040.

Tried an older version of the WHDLoad patch (no speed option), and on an A1200 with Blizzard 1230 MK4 50mhz 68030 and also on WinUae at maximum speed, level 193 is quite beatable. Succeeded first try on both systems. Perhaps the newer version of the patch runs too fast?

Figured it out. The game runs too fast, except when in full screen (numpad enter), and I usually start out in full screen.

I use a WHDLoad version 2.0 (30 May 2020) and all is working fine. The save is also working.

I found out that tooltype nocache slows down the game and makes it more playable. I tried this tooltype long time ago but it didn't work. Recently I discovered my stupid mistake: there was space at the end ("nocache " instead of "nocache") and that's why it didn't work.
So, after 2 years I completed level 193 .

Installed on Harddisk the game hasn't speed problems. So you could complete level 193 two years ago.

The game also have a slide bar in options to adjust game speed according to CPU power, as the manual warns that the game speed is CPU dependant.
Might be onlyt for custom games and not conquest though.
On 68060, a custom game with normal settings is concluded by my total obliteration in no more than 5 minutes.

I had this problem.

I love Populous 2 since 1992.
I spent some nights on this game, until Dune became available and then i played Dune, until a better game came out, etc, even if i never forgot about Populous 2 without having time to seriously replay it.
I think i got until world 180 - 200 at the time on a plain A500Plus.

Recently i have started to play it again from scratch on my A4000 68060 or Vampire V2.
On the A4000 the game is fast, so the people are running very smooth. On the Vampire V2 the animation is not so smooth, i don't know why. But in both cases, the computer plays incredibly fast and agressive and i got a hard time from world 180+. After 200, Hermes always wipe the floor with my people, i get 3 volcanoes and 10 earthquakes while still trying to build some castles.
The speed regulation of the slave seems uneffective.

Then i discovered only this week the Turtle mode of the Vampire. I though it was only for V4 but it works on V2, and really slows down the game to match the A500 speed as i remember it and as it is on Youtube video available now.
And Hermes is still tough but i can manage again to beat it.

I'm curious to know if anyone got to world 1000 before.

Note that i could also play the PC version of the game on my A4000 bridgeboard, but i find the Amiga version a lot more attractive with graphics i like more, with more sounds, even if there is no computer automated play to help like on the MSDOS version.
