VGA monitor switch box - with 2 Amigas and a CM8833

Hi there,

probably a dumb question, but......

I have an old school passive VGA monitor switch box which allows two PCs to use 1 monitor etc.

What I would like to do is use it to enable an A500 and an RGB port equipped CD32 to share a Philips CM8833.

If I get two Amiga RGB -> VGA adapter leads, and a VGA to Philips CM8833 RGB lead, should this work okay?

Many thanks in advance

Rob

Hi Rob, I have the same setup and it works fine. I switch between an A4000 and A1200 with two RGB adapters connected to a VGA manual switch, which then goes to a multi sync monitor.

As long as the adapters work when directly connected to the monitor, they will work with a properly implemented VGA switch. I advise to use one of the metallic ones with a manual switch - they usually connect every pin, while some of the digital ones might do some signal processing that might interfere with 15KHz, or at least that’s what I have read online somewhere.

I also have a bigger, digital switch that also worked fine with the same setup, but it had a “stuck key” issue when pressing more than two keys on a keyboard.

Some analog switch boxes with an electronic switch don't work with 15KHz video (e.g. they are too clever for their own good and refuse to switch to an input with no sync)

If it has a physical switch not a problem.

Yeah this is exactly what I have a metal box with a rotary switch on the front - bought from the now defunct Maplins in the UK.
