Manic Miner + Jet Set Willy II issues!

Seems the installer for Manic Miner does not need the original disk and misses out Manic Miner II! The installer copies the GUI program from the installer and renames it 'Manic Miner' and gives it an icon, no drawer is created!! Running the game shows only Manic Miner and Credits can be selected!

Jet Set Willy II installer is broken as using the official IPF #1115 results in an error after reading the disk that it can't extract the data files! This issue has been on Mantis since 2008 and never fixed, a note by Wepl in 2016 states the Author, John Girvin, has retired!

Girv is still active, but not as a WHDLoad coder it seems. Is the source for the slave available?

None of the WHDLoad installs contain any source code!

Not promising anything, but I'll ask if girv still has the source for the slave and would be willing to hand it over so the IPF can be supported.

Edit: Girv will upload the source so that somebody can take over and fix the issue.

Weird issues, I can’t imagine I released it in that state. No matter, the source code to both is in the Zone now. Both quite awkward installs that needed a lot of patching. Good luck!

Well now. Turns out the uploaded JSW installer, in the "test" directory, has a .slave that might work for you if you copy it over the one you have.

I found an email from 2008 that goes as follows...

The latest version of the JSW2 patch that is on whdload.de and indeed my own website is 0501.1 released in 2001. But on my WinUAE system (and not my real A1200!) is an updated 2002 version of the installer that I must have been working, never finished and then forgot all about!

Like I said, I tried this newer version, which I assumed to be the same one as in general release, and it didn't have any of the problems you reported.

Unfortunately, the new installer isn't yet in a state that I'd be happy to release. The slave works OK (I think) but the rest of the package is not 100% ready. What I have done though is installed your IPF using the new version myself and attached the ready to play archive to this message. I hope that's OK until I get around to finishing the new version properly.

I guess I never got around to "finishing it properly".

edit: Updating that old slave for WHDLoad 18.9

The menu selection seems buggy on faster CPUs. Manic Miner 2 also cannot be selected if I boot the IPF on an emulated A1200, but works on an A500 configuration.

No drawer being created is how the installer is meant to work. There are instructions displayed during installation to create or select the drawer you want the game installed in to. It's maybe not what you expected is all.

Also, which disk did you install from if not an original or IPF?

Confirmed the menu issue is due to bad waiting that breaks on fast machines. The same issue affects JSW2's selection menu too. JSW2 also seems to run at turbo speed on A1200, which may be related.

For Manic Miner i'm using an IPF made from my original disk and for JSW2 i'm using the official IPF #1115, i'm installing under WinUAE with A1200 config (020 with no FPU/MMU, 128mb RAM and RTG) if that helps!

Does the timer matter in JSW2? Like, is it a time limit, or just a game timer?

Seems it's just a timer for how long you've played the game!

The .slave in the zone starts a game of manic miner in a space room instead of JSW2 (first option)

Beta 4 in the Zone. Polishes a few more obscure things.

Probably the final unless something very bad comes up.

Manic Miner is approaching being fixed now too.

On an A1200 does the game (either game, actually) run much faster than on an A500? It does in FSUAE, but I don't know if it's the same on real hardware.
