1084s just died!

I was pottering away getting some software transferred over to my CF card using WinUAE with my Amiga 1200 running in the background on my 1084s when suddenly there was a pop and the 1084s power light went out, the screen went black, and the monitor started letting out a high pitched whine.

The whine continues for a long as the monitor is on, and the display stays black. If I turn it off, the whine's pitch decreases until it stops.

Everything was working beautifully up to this point! Any ideas?

Probably the LOPT? My Trinitron died just as unexpectedly but I was away for 5 mins in the time when this happened. No idea what happened or if there was a sound. Until then the TV was faultless and picture was very sharp, amazing contrast and even geometry was perfect!

yeah, sounds like the LOPT. If so it's probably taken out the Line Output transistor with it but it's always a good idea to change that regardless.

Forgive me for being clueless, is the Line Output Transistor the Horizontal Output Transistor?

Finally got around to working on this. I replaced the LOPT/Flyback, didn't get around to the Line Output Transistor/ HOPT, but it seems like the flyback was at least part of the problem as I have a beautiful picture now.

I have some weird issues, using Testbild.prg on my c64 to focus etc and I now see a little overlap of horizontal lines on the left hand side, only in this one test pattern, see here

https://imgur.com/a/5BEB8LP

Also when adjusting the horizontal width and centering, sometimes the picture disappears but if I wiggle the H width knob it comes back. Seems like dry or cracked solder right? On the connections to the actual pots? Anything else that could cause this?

Ok so I desoldered and resoldered all those pots at the back. But now it won't turn on at all! No power light, nothing!

I figured it out! There was also some damage to the power cord. Found the break and just shortened the cord and we're good!
