Retronaut > Amiga 4000 CH01: The Rescue & The Hoard
In March 2022 I made a dash from London, to Worcester in the British midlands, to collect, or maybe even "rescue" an Amiga 4000.
I last owned an A4000 for a brief few months in the early 1990s, so getting an Amiga 4000 was something of a grail machine for me. The machine was just a small part of a bundle of items, that had been used in the 90s at a commercial TV station in that area. I was told the A4000 did not work, just a black screen... Was the usual battery damage that so many 4000s fall foul of at play here? Watch on and enjoy the journey of the Amiga 4000 rescue! [ Show youtube player ] |

It was a gripping mystery. Surely this is the first time an A4000 has sat idle for decades and suffered damage which may or may not be repairable.

It's a fine thing. I would prefer, how about instead of a video, like a post with photos and screenshots from amigapcb.org highlighting the traces and components that had a problem.
If you want to get fancy, show meter results. And instead of talking about it write, I fixed this part that was obviously bad then it still didn't fix it, and I tested this thing downstream from it, and that was also bad <pic> and then it started working more. It's a fine thing to resurrect an A4000 which is not a machine I was disappointed by unlike a certain model that was more than 3x worse. |

And besides, I think the video format actually works pretty well. Lets say I review a game, I can show it in action, play the music. All that, and also STILL show still images when needed. I do try to put chapters in, so people can skip ahead or past irrelevant bits for them etc. To each their own... |
