BlueSCSIv2: Amiga WIFI Internet!
[ Show youtube player ]
The BlueSCSI v2 has a hidden new feature for Amiga users... WIFI! It emulates a DynaPort, a 1990s Macintosh computer SCSI BUS network device. A few days ago, Rob Smith a UK based developer, revealed he had ported the required device driver to the Amiga. Now your BlueSCSI v2 can give your Amiga networking! In this video, we look at how we can set all of this up and get our 1987 computer on the internet! |

love modern day QOL hacks, btw would this work for an a600/a1200 if they have an scsi adapter that plugs into their pcmcia port? (if such beasts exist?)

I got this working on my CyberStorm MkII SCSI.
I have an x-surf 100 so it's not something I would use but Rob did a great job (and beat me to it lol). |

OMG I've wanted one of those for so long. One big advantage is if you can use SCSI DMA and thus get a DMA ethernet device. You could also use this on the SCSI interfaces on CPU cards and thus bypass the slow Zorro bus.

How fast can it go?
My main rig has a CS MK2 060 but i'm not using the SCSI add on because of the space needed and because i'm fine with internal IDE. If it could give very fast network, that would change the game. For now, my NIC is an USB ethernet device out of my Deneb in DMA Z3 mode. According to AmiSpeedTest, i have about 6439 kb/s download and 4254 kb/s upload. Advantage is that when WHDLoading, the NIC goes off with the USB stack and return after exiting, without the need to shutdown the TCP IP stack. In comparison, the Vampire V2 1200 NIC gives on the same line (fast optical fiber) 2991 kb/s download and 3026 kb/s download. |

I am using BlueSCSI on Classic 680x0 and PPC Macintosh computers very well for 2 months now. I have Ethernet cards and can surf the Internet from these ancient Macs, but for the sake of doing it, I will try this on Amiga as well. Back in early 2000, I used ShapeShifter with https://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/vlink VLink to browse the Internet with Macintosh applications on Amiga 1200. It was slow, but useful. Anyway IBrowse has recent updates, and seems more useful than iCab nowadays, but tinkering with Mac on Amiga with BlueSCSI will be fun.

Vlink has no use anymore.
Shapheshifter can hit directly the Amiga NIC and use it. Do you mean you want to configure the BlueSCSI on the Mac side, then share it with the Amiga with VLink? It would be a considerable use of emulation ressources just to do that. You are also right about iCab versus IBrowse, even the old Ibrowse 2.4 version was better on modern internet than latest iCab. |
