Floppy and Gotex switcher?

Anyone know if it's possible to attach both an external floppy disk drive and a Gotek drive to the Amiga's DB23 floppy port and be able to switch between them so you can use one at a time as DF1?

this depends on if it's a 500/600/1200 or a big box

usually the switchers disable the internal on the 500/600/1200 and the external becomes DF0

there is a new device called a GoDrive that is suppose to swap the drives I believe for the 500/600/1200

for the bigbox there is a socket adapter you can install with a switch and it will flip the drives I-DF0/E-DF1 E-DF0/I-DF1

Yes, but I don't believe anyone makes a ready made switcher like this currently. The theory of operation is the same - you route one drive select alternatively to the drive you want to use, but this time the switch goes between the little ID/motor board inside the external drive and the drive mechanism/gotek.

If the "other" drive (i.e. not currently acting df1) just needs to be passive, you can switch the SEL1 (pin 21) to go to either drive using an SPDT switch.

A simple SPDT switch solution would be ideal.

What is the passthrough DB23 port on the back of some external floppy disk drives for? If a Gotek is attached to this will both drives act like DF1 or be DF1 & DF2?

The passthrough is like the port on the amiga, except for the SELx pins moved one place over so the next one in line uses the same pin, but is in fact the next drive..
E.g. pin 21 on amiga is SEL1, but on the first drive connected, pin 21 on its passthrough is connected to the SEL2 signal, and so on.
