My modded A500+
Hi.
A few months ago I decided to upgrade my A500. Actually i had two A500's rev. 6a. But with the 1MB chip limit I wasn't satisfied, so I bought one A500+ with minimal to none battery leakage, threw the battery away. The A500+ came with 1MB extra installed. What can I say, my kids love to play games on it. So do I ![]() Here's what I put in it. - Bootselector (don't know way) ![]() - Modded PC-drive - Kickstart switch 1.3/3.1 controlled by reset buttons - Kipper2k's A508IDE + 16GB CF partitioned 500MB/14GB - Indivision ECS - 68010 CPU, WHDLoad quitkey now works great (got back to the 00-CPU for more compatibility) Added HD-LED cable from A508IDE to keyboards drive-LED, now left part of LED flash when CF-card is in use and right part of LED for diskdrive. Homemade VGA-bracket. I placed the bootselector switch right beside floppydrive, accessed from trapdoor, didn't want any unnecessary holes in chassis. Hope you liked it. EDIT: Have used that 010-CPU for a while now. Most of the time I play Whdload and that's OK, but when I switch to KS 1.3 and play floppy games the trouble starts, for most games and software aren't compatible with 010. So I'm now back with the 00-CPU and all is good ?? EDIT 2: I´ve also put back the original floppydrive. ![]() Last edited by Fendrix; 18 February 2024 at 12:02. |

Nice!
Did you make the Indivision extension yourself? Because the standard cable is just a bit tooo short! |

Hi, yes I made the flat cable extension myself. It's beyond my understanding how they can include such short cable that doesn't reaches the best point of placement.
![]() But it was an easy job, not that expensive. ![]() |

Hi fendrix
nice machine! Did you have any trouble installing the a508ide ? I can't get it to fit in my a500 using the adapter like you show as a capacitor gets in the way How did you do it? |

Hi ikorodu.
Thanx ![]() I bought new caps and soldered them lying down. I also made 2 support-legs, that I screwed in place under the PCB of A508IDE on each side of the CF-card. So now it won't wiggle loose from CPU-socket when CF is taken in and out repeatedly. /Fendrix EDIT: HAHA, I didn´t lie down when I was soldering them in place ![]() Last edited by Fendrix; 18 February 2024 at 12:00. |
