Gyrex missing(?)
In Zzap64 Jan 90 page 30, it made reviewer Robin's top 10 of 1989. He says it's a Gyruss rip-off and he thinks it's made by The Power House.
It's also not found on Planetemu or Turran. Just happened to see it and didn't know it either. Does he misremember, or is there such a game? |

Except for that one mention I can't find any more info about the game (for Amiga or any other 'retro' platform). Interesting link there Snoopy

I just downloaded Pursuit to Earth and there is one funny thing inside the adf. Executable file is named 'gyrex'. Is it possible that this game was called gyrex (for example by devs) but they changed name ? |

Pursuit to Earth.DMS on Turran also shows GYREX as a file. The game is the same game as the later online Gyrex I linked. It's developer is POG. Registered PHS. (might be Power House)?

Yes, but it seems to be game from 1991 year. when Gyrex from first post seems to be from 1989 year. Of course it can be newest version of same game too.

The Power House began as Alpha-Omega Software, a budget label from CRL. It primarily released original titles, though there were a few reissues also among the range, which was widely considered to be of generally poor quality. The company was bought out by Ashley Hildebrandt in 1988, but folded that year with huge debts.
https://www.mobygames.com/company/7119/power-house-the/ If that's correct, these maybe assets that found a new life after the Power House folded? That'd be my guess anyhow =) |

Awesome @GiantClam and @Snoopy1234
From the new name I find a single reference to a trainer on Janeway. So, possibly renamed after it folded. I'd have to think it's the same game. I'll give it a go. Edit: Gave it a go and lovely nostalgia <3 and quite different, lots more enemies and has Nemesis-like upgrade system and no collision other than with bullets. And framerate plummets, no idea what this is written in. Maybe a fantasy CPU can make it yum, but for me it's yuck. Yoda: "There IS no framerate. You must unlearn what you have learned." It kind of blows the mind how this made someone's top 10 in 1989 of no accelerators, though. Not sarcastic just confused. Anyway, it seems that the field is still open for a port of this game of which the A500 is more than capable, in full screen, with overscan. Last edited by Photon; 15 December 2023 at 00:29. |

I've added 'Gyrex' as a pre-release name to the Pursuit to Earth HOL entry. (won't be visible until tomorrow)

Pursuit to Earth IPF zoned. First reads to SCP and ctraw gave T22.1 (missing sectors) maybe protecton but disk-analyse to IPF seems to have cleaned it up with straight ADOS. Works on WinUAE AF.
