Small update: got music working over MIDI.
Also did speed tests on real hardware. Slower than expected on a 030 @ 40 Mhz, about as bad as WC1 on a stock A500. So there is still much work to do. Sadly, spent too much time on the TF1260, which just does not want to run stable. |

I got this one from The 8bit guys website and it's been working good for over a year now and the price isn't bad either for a new product https://www.the8bitguy.com/product/c...le-controller/ |

Maybe it will be possible to use parts of optimized amiga WC1 code in this WC2... @derSammler In any case, good luck in completing this project. |

Thanks for the suggestion, but since I started this as a learning experience, I need to get there myself. The journey is the reward.

I am a big fan of Wing Commander, I always missed WC2 on the Amiga. Talking about the music, most of Amiga users got a lot of fast memory, I got 128MB fast mem. so, music can be big stereo (or mono) 8bit 16khz sample streamed from fast ram. That would make easier to get the music for the game, you can get the MT32 soundtrack and convert it on Amiga samples. It could be an option for large fast ram users. Streamed sampled music can take 2 channels and you can play Sound Effects on the other 2 channels. Mod option is ok, but it could be a huge job to make it. |

That's why I'm not going to provide the WC2 source to them either. Makes no sense to me. It is as safe on my hard disk as it would be on their's. Quote:

Ah, yeah. You are from the "gimme, gimme, gimme" fraction. Go play somewhere else.
Or do you assume I'm too dumb to safely store data? I'm an IT specialist and have not lost a single file since 1998. I have a fully isolated (battery-powered, no internet) RAID5 storage system using WD Black hard drives that backs up itself to RDX. Nothing stored on there will ever get lost, unless my house burns down or someone steals the whole thing. And even then I still have the RDX backup... And thats the point. You are going public with something that the public is never allowed to play. This is crazy and you don't understand why. That's all. |

If there is a need to switch tunes immediately you can precache the beginnings of each file instead of keeping the full tracks in the memory. Some designated buffer just to kickstart (yup :>) each track after which you can stream it just from a disk. |

Maybe you could make a video where you see your Amiga booting the game with your mobile phone? This would make it more likely that the port is legit. The story that you have a source code nobody else has and you do not want to share it is not 100% credible. |

I have decided to pull the plug on this. After evaluating what I've got so far, the conclusion is that I would need to start from scratch to get it right, since I made many errors that can not be fixed without a rewrite. But sadly, I simply have no time for that with two major projects planned for the upcoming year.

So you have a source code nobody else has.
You refused to share it to anybody. You uploaded a video that showed an Amiga version running without the smallest glitch. You ignored the request to upload a video that shows the game running on a real Amiga. And now you state that your perfectly running verson is so full of errors that it cannot be fixed and has to be startet from scratch - what will never happen. Who do you think will be fooled by this statement? You trolled us hard here. |

Feel free to proof that I am really wrong in this specific case. If you can not, we can stop discussing things that do not exist. |
