How do I play an audio CD from Workbench?

On Workbench-enabled CDTV and CD32. (Leaving Paula free for computer-generated sound.)

well i remember the A500's A570 had actual ports for cd-audio you could hook up to speakers or mix with the a500s sound, i cant actually remember how it worked on my CD32 when i still had it, i think the audio was pre-mixed when it came out the usual way.

which meant you would run something like ACDPlay or MegaCDPlayer and the audio just kinda worked once you set the correct device/unit.

On zorro and aga systems expansions facilitate a separate audio device eg Prelude and apollo SANA device which leaves Paula alone. On my A1200's OS 3.9 and 3.x, AHI dictates which device/channel is used for the AmigaAmp player and Paula is an option but not a necessity iirc. IDK what the situation is on an OS 1.3 CDTV tho.

Isn't the question just what software and device to use to tell the CD drive to play an audio track? That will not use Paula anyway, as a CD drive can do that on its own.

Mixing with Paula output is not required on a CDTV/CD32, as these two do that already in hardware.

Thx for answers. Will try programs in the IDEFIX97 archive. The current task is to do this on CD32 (KS+WB3.1). CDTV can wait - it's not WB 2.x-enabled yet.

There are plenty of CD player programs on Aminet.

http://aminet.net/search?query=play+cd

Just do not use one of the few which read digital audio from the CD and play it back through AHI or Paula.

IdeFix PlayCD needs DEVICE and possibly UNIT specified.

IdeFix contains a devs/DOSDrivers/CD0.info, i.e. no device file, just the icon. and in its devs/ there are many to choose from and I don't know which type of CD the CD32 has. I also don't know if I should install the whole thing, and I don't know how accurate it is at detecting what I have.

So, which ones don't and work on CD32?

just install the idefix package using the installer icon
usually it will detect which cd device you have and add a cd0 or cd1 icon to your devs/dosdrivers directory
the package come with drivers for lot of amiga configs included the cd32
the playcd program also is configured in the installation process

i always use AsimCFS scsi_inquire tool to see what device and unit the cdrom is on.. Also is a cd player included (Asim tunes) edit the tool details to get that working:

http://ftp2.grandis.nu/turran/FTP/TO...s)[HD].zip

Maybe use 3.10 >> http://ftp2.grandis.nu/turran/FTP/Co...CDFS.V3.10-DC/
