Amiga 500 upgrade -next step?
I have an Amiga 500 (chickenlips) with Kickstart 1.2 and 1MB RAM (new RAM-expansion without the scary battery). I use it mainly for retro-gaming, but it's an alternative to do some graphics and music with it from time to time as well.
I just recently upgraded it with an external Gotek and a DF0-switch, and it was a nice addition to have the ability to load games using a USB-stick, but still have the internal floppy available as DF0 with the flip of a button. But if I want to enhance the Amiga experience further, what do you think is the next step? Will a newer kickstart do any difference? More RAM? Anything else? |

Check out ACA500+ https://icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/...CA500plus.html
It's a bit pricey but also imo an ultimate A500 extension. |

Well, to use a hard Drive you'll need a ROM upgrade. Rather than a Gotek i'd have went with DE68K this (Though I expect a Gotek will still be Handy for stuff that doesn't have WHDload slaves).
DE68K + GottaGo FastRAM 8MB 65,95 € tax incl Terrible Fire 534 HDD +33mhz 030 4MB Fast Ram 144,95 € tax incl from https://amigastore.eu/ probably available else where. |

Leave as is TBH or buy another A500 and upgrade that as upgrading will take it away from its roots and you have an already good system IMO :-)

I've been thinking about maybe putting my current A500 back to it's original state (but leaving the memory expansion in there), as it is the slighty more rare chickenlips-version, and buy another A500, (maybe an A500+ because the internal components won't be that old), and upgrade the heck out of that. Would be nice to buy a black case and keycaps for it, they look really good. And thanks to everybody else for some good tips. I have to read up on those. But I guess I will buy a new gamepad and a mouse USB-adapter from amigastore.eu first. The joystick that came with it is really bad, and the original mouse is really slow and not comfortable to use at all. |
