Mousestick
I've been playing Wings recently and getting a bit frustrated with the controls - with a digital stick its hard to target, I also notice you can use the mouse, however my mouse is old and "sticky" and there is no self centring.
Back in the day I had a Gravis mouse stick for exactly this reason....games that supported analogue mouse control but didn't support an analogue stick. I think Indy 500 was one such game. The Gravis emulated mouse input but as a joystick. Gravis Mousesticks are rare beasts these days so I was wondering if anyone knows of a widget or GIT project out there that takes an analogue stick as input and spits out a mouse like signal. It shouldn't be to hard to do with an arduido or similar. Probably within my capabilities but not within my amount of spare time. |

It depends how it does it, there were 2 modes on the gravis:
1. The position of the stick was an absolute position in the screen, i.e. if you let go of the stick the pointer always returns to the origin. 2. The stick position was proportional to the speed of the pointer, when you let go of the stick the pointer stops wherever you accelerated it to. The first mode is whats needed for most mouse->stick games. What does your widget do? Im guessing 2. |

Someone has done a digital joy -> mouse arduino project, that would be a useful starting point. Still telling myself I don't have the time!!! https://github.com/asig/amiga-mouse-adapter |

Yes, what you need is an emulator of the exact behavior you want, including self-centering even when leaving the stick in the same position, which will require sending counter-movements when the joystick is untouched until zero.
The port itself can receive these movements and if the game supports mouse the movements will be as if you moved the mouse the same way. |
