Upgrading to 1MB Chip Ram
Hi,
Amiga 500 KS1.3 rev6. I'd like to upgrade my Amiga from 0,5 to 1MB of Chip ram. I plan to use the RAM present in the trap door of 512KB ram extension by changing a jumper on mother board. So my question is, if it is feasible, can I use any 512KB ram extension or should I buy one specifically ? Thanks, |

Yes, any will work. Did the same on my A500. Only two jumpers on the mainboard need to be changed.
Agnus must be 8372 or newer, but that should be the case with any rev.6 A500. |

Bear in mind that if you do this, you then won't have the trapdoor slow RAM at $C00000 any more, so some early "1MB RAM" demos/games won't work because the extra 512k isn't at the address they expect. If that's a problem for you, then you might be better off with a 2MB trapdoor expansion (I've got the AMIGAstore one), which gives you 1MB chip RAM, plus 1.5MB of slow RAM at $C00000.

Or simply add a switch with 2x3 pins and wire that up to the jumper pads. You can then switch between 1 mb chip and 512/512k chip/slow.

I recently made that mod on my newly purchased A600 rev. 6 with an old Amitech (Danish) trapdoor expansion, and that works fine. c",)
