RGB2HDMI (A500) troubleshooting

Hi

Backstory:
So I dusted off an old A500 I once tried to install RGB2HDMI on, but this was before all those longer adapter boards were created and it didn't fit. Fast forward 2 years or so, and I found a RBpi Zero and thought I'd finally do the upgrade as I did get a Linux Jedi "Longboy" adapter a while ago.

Whats wrong:
Now that I hooked it all up, I do get an output on HDMI, BUT, color palette is "capped" so it looks like I'm playing IK+ on a Speccy ;-)
Video will explain it better:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h4P...ew?usp=sharing

What I've checked:
I tested with 2 different Denise Chips (Normal and Super Denise), no difference. I Tried with both Stable and Beta releases of the software found here:
https://github.com/IanSB/RGBtoHDMI/wiki/Latest-Software

If I read the Default.txt file right it should be set to 6 / 12 bit
Last row reads
"cpld_firmware_dir=/cpld_firmware/6-12_bit"

I just recently got RGB2HDMI working on my A2000 and that one looks right, same software used.

Any ideas where to start troubleshooting?

Which RGB2HDMI is this? I use c0pperdragon's chip with a pzero and have no issues like that?

Clicking on your github link says IanSB RGBtoHDMI... Maybe ask in his github issues page?

Did you go into the Amiga_CPLD_Readme directory and copy the contents of the Amiga_CPLD_Setup directory into the root like the readme says? Things won't work right at all until you do this, including the button. You also might have to go through the calibration menu option if you haven't done that already.

Also, make sure you have the HDMI output mode set correctly. I've heard some displays don't handle full RGB properly and you have to use one of the other modes.

The board is a LinuxJedi ”Longboy”.
As mentioned, I tested both Ians beta release and the stable release.
I copy over the Default.txt from Amiga CPLD/Profiles folder to the root dir of the SD card.
The monitor I test it on is the same one I tested my A2000 on (also a LinuxJedi board, but this one was for the A2000 Video slot).
I guess I could manually tweak the Default. txt but not sure to what. My initial suspicion was that it was some sort of weird 3-bit mode.

Just so that we can eliminate the possibility of some issue with the Amiga or Denise I uploaded another video where I have RGB out to VGA and HDMI output simultaneously.

That's not actually where it goes. You copy the contents of the entire Amiga_CPLD_Setup into the root, so that Default.txt actually winds up being at /Profiles/Default.txt and you need the profile_6-12_BIT_RGB.txt and profile_3-12_BIT_BBC.txt (not sure why this one) in the root.

Ill try that, but on my A2000, it works fine with default.txt in root.
This part of the instruction in the readme wasnt fool proof so theres room for error.

Are you sure the same CPLD image is appropriate for both boards?

@LordCrass, your suggestion was spot on, so that fixed the weird palette issue. Thanx.
@hooverphoniqe, both boards are LinuxJedi, so that what I assumed, however for the A2000 I used the content of that specific 2000 directory.

Anyway, so now colors look sharp, however, the output is a bit wobbly.
I tried to capture on camera for reference:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Zqb...ew?usp=sharing
Any settings that can be tweaked to minimize the "rolling wobbliness"?

Cheers, and thanx for the help

Run the calibration tool. It's under one of the menu options (sampling perhaps?)

You were right again, and since the menu didn't work until the previous step was fixed it was the first time I could access the menu top get to the Sampling settigns.
And changing Sampling --> Phase from 3 to 5 made the pic very stable.
Attaching the final video of the now stable image here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1g7a...ew?usp=sharing
In the short video we see RGB to VGA first, then RGB2HDMI.

Than for your help, hopefully someone else can also find this helpful.

Cheers

Hi, have a green screen when turning A500 on ... ( https://github.com/jbilander/A500_RGBtoHDMI )

The PI works ... tested with another RGB to HDMI ...

Denise works ... also tested with another RGB to HDMI ...

Program - all passed and succesfull ...

SD card - all the same in all testings ... working ...

Any advice, where to look, rechecked the board but didn't find any thing that is not soldered OK ...

THX
