No Love for RoboCop 3?

Being in the process of updating the slaves of my WHDLoad collection, I'm a bit shocked that RoboCop 3 still only has the install from 1999 and never saw any updates. On my A600 with a 030, I can get the game to run with NoMMU, no other tooltypes needed. And it runs well. On the PiStorm with Emu68, I have to use NoCache, otherwise it crashes. Sadly, that makes the game crawl and completely unplayable at about 1 fps. This game was fast even on a stock A500. Would be nice if after 24 years, someone would give the WHDLoad install for that game some love.

It was ahead of its time and the first first person shooter I ever played. I knew I wanted more I was just not sure what that would look like until Doom.

I think it's actually fine on an A500/A1200.

Fully agree. It's absolutely stunning what DID achieved with this game on a stock Amiga. Also, the presentation is just awesome. Very similar to TFX (also from DID, of course).

That's why I'm shocked how little attention it got WHDLoad-wise. No one touched it since 1999, while some other crappy games get a new slave almost every year.

Slave author is dead. If it dont works on Emu68 then it can be SMC problem or extra wait can be necessary or Emu68 has any bug.

Issue is that it needs NoCache, which has the side-effect of making the game too slow. Again, that slave is from 1999. It's not using any modern WHDLoad feature.

Didn't know that, that's sad to hear. But I don't see why that matters. Slaves almost never only have one author. They are updated by different people. Other installs from him were updated all the time as well, like Full Contact, which I just copied over to my A500.

I maintained a lot of Mr Larmer slaves. Mr Larmer which besides being talented, provided 100% of his source code for others to maintain, which saved us countless hours of resourcing.

Robocop 3 was on my lists of 3D games to accelerate. The main issue is that the game runs in chipmem. Relocating it to fastmem isn't a piece of cake, but would allow much faster operation.

I think the most important improvement would be to patch it so that it does not need "NoCache" anylonger on 040/060, because that's what makes it slow on Emu68.

Of course, that might sound much easier than it is.

How sad!

I would like the WHDLoad splashscreen to pay a tribute to him somehow. This alone deserves an update.

Robocop 3 is pretty cool but CACHE support would be really needed.
(it works with CACHE but Sound FX getting screwed up)

Same Engine as EPIC,i guess (and that one is also pretty tricky)

The WHDLoad Gods are always pretty busy.

Let them be praised and hope one day Robocop 3 getting the "treatment".

Mr. Larmer "god" bless you

But only up to a 030. On a 040/060, it no longer works with cache. It crashes once it tries to go in-game.

With Emu68 1.0 RC2, RoboCop 3 now runs at very good speed. NoCache is still needed, but the framerate is much higher. Seems like the instruction cache tweak did wonders with this game.

Also, it fixed a ton of audio issues in other games (e.g. TFMX7 in Turrican 2+3, f*cked up notes in R-Type 2). Really nice.
