A500 drive sound nostalgic questions

good times, i had an A500 ks1.2 back in the day, and the internal drive noise always was like a fifth channel power bass boost to me

i have a couple of questions for the skilled persons here around

1) was the A500 one the louder drive of all the different Amiga models?

2) how is triggered that pneumatic hammer like drive sound, ie in the Hybris loading sequence?

just to clarify the noise i'm referring to (despite emulated in the video) :

always adored that loud noise

3) do you think it could be somewhat dangerous for the drive or the floppy inserted?

Not sure exactly, but I think the weirder loading routines, including extreme drive sounds (Crazy Cars III springs to mind, not sure if anyone's captured that online) usually involved copy protection routines. Loading either Hybris or CC3 in WinUAE using cracked copies doesn't seem to make the same sound. Maybe it's just me reading too much into it, but both of them almost sound like the music composer has borne the drive sound in mind and integrated it into the music. My A1200 definitely had a louder drive than my A500, I always assumed that was down to KS2/3's dfferences from 1.x but it may have been the actual physical drives too.

While i generally liked amiga floppy sounds, one that i will NEVER miss is the darn "kro-ronch! kro-ronch!" of the load error!

same here; interesting to read about your A1200 drive, the 1200 model i still have here (with original drive) is almost silent compared to the one mentioned in the op

Noise (sound) is produced by mechanical energy - mechanics has limited number of activities - if you add both together it is quite clear that it can't be insignificant from drive perspective.
