Guardian, and G'Tok on PC are nowhere near the anabolic workout of a frenetic game of Defender in the arcade,
I don't agree, Guardian is very arcadey and frantic and has the spirit of Defender! Each to their own though!

Not quite the same pace as the lightning fast reflexes needed to get a high score on the 60hz arcade original

Fastest 3D flight combat I've played with a real sense of dogfights a relentless invasion fleet. All enemy types have different behaviour that demands a positive ID of what's surrounding you. Spatial awareness of both the hoard and defensive structures/trees is required. The radar is used in a similar way. Very, very similar IMHO!

Heh, just watched a small video as part of the Gaming Chronicles Kickstarter, with Archer MacLean. He was laying the boot right into Warner Bros calling them useless and short-sighted for getting rid of Jay Miner. Had they kept hold of him and his team, Atari may have been alive and kicking to this day, with all its arcade IPs presumably, than the mess it turned into.

Mind you, the Amiga then would have been under the Atari brand, I guess.

Still, eitherway, WB management .. you friggin suck, officially.

BLASTER (sequel to Robotron 2084) by Midway is fantastic, played it on MAME the other day, such fantastic sound fx and visuals, it really is a perfect example of an 80's arcade banger, thank goodness for MAME otherwise we'd never get to play many of those 80's classics today as so many are not available to play outside MAME,...even though Blaster is.
