Indeed, they keep the game as close to the original as possible. Otherwise you get Blade Runner

I'm sure the modding community will provide, doing texture upgrades is par for the course conditioned by decades of making Elder Scrolls games look less Bethesda.

From what I can see textures got higher resolution, they are not some high ultra HD quality just bit bigger. Monsters also got few more polygons, but they will still look blocky by today standards. Levels also receive some extra geometry, but nothing as much complicated as Quake4, it still look and feel like old Quake2. If I finish Broforce Forever maybe I will give it a try.

The remastered version has better shadows.
It also introduces a new bit of lag, a new Berserker action of jumping onto you.
The bad guys are more mobile, leaving the area where they are normally found to chase you down.
Learned gaming play (automatic reactions) don't work well in this version, with the result being an increased risk of damage and death at the same level of play as the original version.

I think it really boils down to taste which one is 'better'.
