Is the copy protection still active in Starflight?

I've started playing it recently, first time on Amiga. I did not bother entering the proper codes from the wheel when prompted because I read somewhere it's not needed on Amiga, and also the readme says that protection was removed.

But shortly after exploring my second star system the Interstelar Police has turned up. No matter what I do they either arrest me or destroy the ship (both means game over). That is also odd, because I recall reading that they usually give you one more chance to enter the codes.

So I'm wondering if I missed something obvious and am doing it all wrong? I guess I could start from scratch, entering the codes this time, but I've invested a few hours in this save already and wouldn't mind salvaging it if possible.

It's a relatively new slave only 3 years old. @stingray is active on this forum so maybe he can answer.

Create a Mantis account and report the bug against the slave.

Fair enough. I know about Mantis, just thought I'd ask here first before reporting it as a bug, seeing as it's a well known game, and I could've been doing something wrong too.

I'll try another run from scratch with fresh save to confirm it, then report it.
