Starflight

Has anybody managed to get past the initial stage in this game when using WHDLoad version - and not inputting the copy protection codes, just relying on the crack? By "initial" I mean roughly after exploring the second solar system, the one you'd naturally go to if you follow the tips from the game.

Asking, because when I've tried to play it recently, I got busted by the Interstellar Police after leaving that system. This is a part of the copy protection scheme. So I'm trying to establish if it's a WHDL bug to be reported, or maybe there was some mistake on my side. It takes quite a few hours of gameplay to get to this stage, so I thought I'd ask first before trying to replicate this.

Also interested in your experience with the cracked adf, does it work?

I too played the C64 version, but I'm just about to start a new adventure on the Amiga using the WHDLoad version. It seems people have had similar problems with the GOG.com version on the PC as well. Apparently a working Amiga crack exists but I don't know which one it is.

Have you posted a Mantis tracker ticket about the WHDLoad version?

Nah, like I said i wanted to first confirm that this isn't something just on my side. But that was a year ago, then I got distracted by something and only remembered about this issue now.

Let us know how you get on with your Amiga playthrough.

Sure. Progress will be slow due to work but I'll report when anything significant happens in this regard

Also, it seems the crack that works is by Death Angel, according to this old thread: https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=24516

Well, I didn't have to play longer than a couple of hours to meet the Interstellar Police who promptly destroyed me and my whole crew even though I agreed to come peacefully

The copy protection is in place. I answered with random numbers each time the code prompt came up.

[edit] To clarify, I played the WHDLoad version by Stingray (1.00 from Sep 2018). It seems to be the only version released for Starflight so far.

Lockpick v2 says it removes code wheel protection from Starflight...perhaps worth doing so on an ADF copy, then using that to (during installation or afterwards) feed WHDLoad?

Thank you Galahad, will try it out when I have spare time (or hopefully somebody else can do the test ride).

Thanks Galahad!

Three and a half hours in, no sight of the Interstellar Police so far. Looking good at the moment.

I see Stingray (and Retroplay) have been busy too and updated the WHDLoad install a few days ago. Great stuff.

Thanks @all!
