Iirc, I think in both cases, the images of DJP were lifted from the video "From Bedrooms to Billions: The Amiga Years!" (2016) |

"Is this Kickstarter from the real David Pleasance? I have backed a previous Kickstarter by him and this is not from the same account."

Yeah do NOT bash the supporters of this. it is enterly up to them.
I however. no. will not do it. and it also ironically means that the list of people doing help etc. will not include me. meaning it will not be a complete list. so the idea falls all through. |

Please read carefully. There sure is a need to highlight the shortcomings of this money-raising scheme, but no need to bash anybody for choosing to support it |

If someone has £38 to throw away on a glorified WordPress blog, then they're in a better position than me. Good luck to them, I say.

For clarity, I never suggested naming and shaming any individual. That would be wrong. I intended to simply question what type of Amiga user may have backed this. I would be surprised if any of the 45 were regulars in the Amiga forums and socials.

I agree with most of the sentiment here. It appears from the outside as a scheme with potentially murky motivations (i.e. money).
I would have less of a problem with the whole thing if DP was already a contributing member of the current Amiga community - then I would question his motives less. If he had been contributing to the scene driven by the love of the Amiga for years then it wouldn't look so much like a cash grab. However, it appears as though he's spotted the popularity of the Amiga and thought "I could make some money here". That's what makes the current Amiga scene so great. People are out there making amazing things just for the love of the platform - and not for cash. Just look at PiStorm for example. The whole thing just feels embarrassing and unneeded. There are plenty of ways for people to financially support creative people nowadays. The whole subscription thing feels like the wrong direction to go in. If anything, I could see it driving the scene apart, as you'll no doubt get certain alliance members who are unhappy they are not getting the same slice of the pie as others. I don't have anything personal against DP but let's hope the whole thing just disappears. |
