I'm baaaack!! (Or: a new hello from an old user)
Hi guys!
It's been forever since I submitted anything, and only then my count was < 10, so I felt it only right to re-introduce myself ![]() ![]() ![]() Where to begin, where to begin... I've been a Commodore user and (rabid) fan since 1982, with my VIC-20. I bought my first Amiga in 1986, brand-new. I remember it well... the Amiga, monitor and an Epson JX80 color printer were $700 each, plus about $700 worth of software. Cqme to a total of roughly $3000. in 1986 dollars. I'll let that sink in for a few beats. I have a lifetime subscription to AmigaForever, but for me, emulation just doesn't do anyting justice. While on my last federal contract, I helped out RHN with tons of VMs for deployment with my SATCOM software... and I never could get all the nuances right. SO, I'm back to a real Amiga. I have an Amiga 500 with 1MB of RAM, with KS 1.3 in ROM, and sadly only one internal floppy. I'm still looking for a 1010 drive or a GoTek, and a decently-sized memory expansion for the left sidecar. Why did I revert to my college days, you ask? There's a simple answer: programming used to be fun. I started developing because of my Amiga. I had fully intended to work in the Amiga development field after graduation. Hell, I wrote a very primitive speech recognition system for my beloved Amiga 1000 in college, to help my anthropology prof on her way to a PhD. Sadly, that system doesn't exist anymore thanks to an overnight compile during a lightning storm. ![]() ![]() I just want development to be fun again. That's all. ![]() |

I have been a member for awhile but figured this is the best place to try:
I use AmiKitXE and had MainActor installed and working. Then I installed more software and got a disk full. Then I was not able to run the program ? The first time, I installed the program first then the key in l: and read the docs so reversed the order and still nothing. I don't remember where I got the program but have had a long time. I have the original install on my 4 gig ultra wide scsi that came out of my 3000 when I traded it but turned very bad. I may have got the current install media from my former Amiga club president who lost every thing in a wild fire in Santa Rosa California but had a lot of his Amiga stuff in a storage building so gave his stuff to me. One of the item was a "STILL in the shipping boX" to Asha Develder aka Lady Asha from the bbs/telnet/Starship Amiga-Compuserve days. As for me, I am the founder of AmiWest and shortly after that, I updated Carl Sassenraths' 3000-that had the source code to REBOL-to a 060 with gcard updated SAS and more memory. Bo aka amicom used it for awhile and then Holger aka Miami, showed up and he got it and last I heard he had it when REBOL closed. |

welcome back.
If you want to code stuff, I suggest you develop on Windows using a modern environment, test on emulator (with cycle exact!) and then you can enjoy your productions on a real machine. |
