On the contrary, have you tried Scalos on AROS, I do ? at the moment Scalos is in the works, there are so many incompatibilities, and graphical artifacts, to work and avoid conflicts, they would have to eradicate Wanderer, which is impossible at the moment, and how to get rid of Workbench on Amiga If you have the right hardware Wandere is faster than Magella and Scalos, especial,ly in handling windows with many Icons, trust me ! How much do you need to launch DOpus from S-S? I recall it not being all that much but I haven't done this in a long time. And launching it from no S-S hasn't been necessary for me in a long time.

Both Scalos and Magellan can also be run from the Workbench, see my old video attached, but as mentioned, you will never have a stable system, there will always be clashes between the two systems.

DOpus needs nothing, it must be simply started. It is a kind of "out of the box" solution, alien like Amigasystem would say

Regarding Scalos, it is working quiet well on 68k (after Deadwood did a lot of fixes) so I do not know what you exactly mean. Of course that can be different on X86 (and you are more interested in X86 than in 68k, what is ok to me). And yes directories with many icons are shown slower than on Wanderer, on the other hand you can configure almost everything including icon handling. You do not have that on Wanderer, propably not even on Workbench with VisualPref. Additionally Scalos implements Workbench behavior so for people not liking Magellan because of the difference it is a good compromise between having something like Workbench and a really modern desktop. |

Regarding Scalos, we have done the tests together on Scalos on both X86 and 68k, and we have not reached maximum compatibility, so there is still a lot of work, we have discussed it extensively qin this link, where you can read about all the incompatibilities I reported which are many https://ae.amigalife.org/index.php?topic=947.0 Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 09 March 2023 at 12:26. |

In the Zone is the first version of OpenBench and is this the absolute basic, I plan to add more, or if anyone else wants to add anything go ahead.
It's on a VHD again that can be written back to CF for use on real Amiga 600/1200 with WinImage or just used with WinUae as a hardfile. It uses FAT file system for ease of access and adding files etc. |

Tested, great to boot a Hardfile in FAT, however "OpenBench" will always need an Amiga KickStart and System files ! |

It boots with AROS Kickstart replacement but not when using FAT filesystem.
The goal is just to have an Open Workbench equivalent to 2.x. The FAT VHD thing may just be a separate project. |

Consider that WinUAE's AROS ROM is obsolete, the newest version consisting of 2 roms is to be found in the latest Nightly Builds, eventually you can merge them and create a single 1MB ROM

Doesn't matter it should work with AROS ROM as any Workbench should work with AROS ROM. But that's not really the goal anyway.
Probably going to switch MSys-1.2 for GoWb to allow Kick 2.x compatibility. |

There is also a bootable Jazzbench adf floating around that is supposed to be public domain.
Also available: "Hackbench" source code on Fish Disc 96 And a self proclaimed replacement called "Benchmaster" |

There is also UAEBench - the site seems to have gone down recently, but it can still be downloaded from archive.org:
https://web.archive.org/web/20210418...u/UAEBench.zip There was also the shareware mbench: https://aminet.net/package/util/wb/mbench |
