Linux APUS installation
Hi all!
I'm trying to install Linux on my A4000 with a Cyberstorm PPC accellerator using this instructions. Everything works great, but I can't finish the installation because my Amiga was always stuck at various stages. Looks like this is a SCSI issue. When the disk transfer becomes too intensive (formatting, unpacking packages etc) - there is a high probability that the system will completely freeze. I'm using 2.4.18 APUS-kernel. My SCSI chain is: Active LVD/SE terminator -> CSPPC -> Acard AEC-7720UW + IDE-SATA adapter + 120 GB SATA SSD disk Does anyone have any thoughts on what I can do to fix this situation? Thanks. |

I don't know if this is "the" problem, but you definitely need a terminator at the other end of the SCSI chain, too.

I've found a problem.
Official manual of Acard AEC-7720UW has a mention, that this adapted works only with DMA drives. Looks like that IDE-SATA adapter + SATA HDD don't have or insufficiently implements DMA modes. I tried to use IDE-CF adapter with Transcend CF Card (32 mb 133x) - got the same errors. After this I tried Transcend CF Card with UDMA 7 mode - all works perfectly now! |

Also, non-DMA devices will not work with a Zorro network card. Regardless of the current operating system, connecting the network interface to the network will cause the computer to freeze.
