Clicboom Quake weird screenmode?
Howdy
Been running WinQuake without issues for a good while now but the other day I dusted off my original CD with Clickboom Quake. When I start it it seems to open a screenmode that doesn't work with my Dell 2311H which is a 15kHz capable monitor. I can hear that the game works and it launches properly except for the weird screen mode. Anyone remembers what screenmode it opens and why it wouldn't work on a display that shows pretty much everything I throw at it just fine. WinQuake uses a cfg file but by default Clickboom Quake doesn't seem to. Suggestions? Last edited by eXeler0; 17 December 2022 at 00:59. Reason: fix error |

you could try run from cli or a script with the -safe option
the config.cfg file is in the id1 directory as far as I know. |

I even copied the old -safe file from CD overwriting the one I ran but it had no effect so I suspect video-modes are stored somewhere else.. And about the .cfg file.. yea WinQUake has a .cfg in the ID folder, but ClickBoom Quake does not. So Im confused about where the hell it stores the default video mode... |

You could check your sys:devs/monitors folder and remove any that you know are not applicable.

What I still dont quite get is why it works now in PAL 320x256 but when I chose that exact same mode as default before it wouldn't work.. Anyhoo, problem solved it seems, removing unnecessary stuff from "Monitors" made the difference, thanx for the help |

it may be it stores modeid's in 'dh0 : prefs / env-archive / quake1'?
either which way glad you got it working. |

you could always try snoopdos to find what gets read and where it lives on your hard drive when you launch the game as quake is os friendly and you can quit back to workbench.
on my install it looks in the id1 directory and loads the config.cfg. the _vid_default_mode is the value that changes when the screen mode is changed. for me 0 = ntsc 320x200 and a value of 5 = pal 320x256 attached is my config.cfg for pal 320x256. rename it to config.cfg and put it in your id1 directory to try if you like Last edited by abu_the_monkey; 18 December 2022 at 23:24. |
