Why not get a butget server at OVH. They don't have bandwidth caps, you don't need a fast cpu or lots of memory, just disk space. For 31 usd a month you can get a 6TB/32gb/100mbit unmetered server. |

Which option gives you that? I can't see that combination and fail to find any with 6TB storage. Then again, I've never used OVH so I might be blind. Last edited by Turran; 03 September 2022 at 12:32. |

https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/ click on "bare metal cloud" -> "eco dedicated servers" scroll down a bit CPU : Intel Xeon E3-1245v2 - 4c/8t - 3.4 GHz/3.8 GHz Memory : 32 GB DDR3 Storage : 3 x 2 TB HDD SATA Soft RAID Public bandwidth : 100 Mbps $22.99 /month you will have to run the disks in raid 0 (make sure you have a backup system in place, like rsync to your local server every hour or so) OVH is a hosting provider that does not hold your hand. You get the hardware + bandwidth and support is pretty much only on the hardware itself. That you are getting here is pretty much a bottom of the barrel server. Its old hardware, slow disks. But it should be more than enough for running an FTP server. I've been working with OVH for years so if you need help setting up the server let me know. |

Well, so much for Jottacloud. Guess they don't like Amiga games. And no, I really do not store anything other "illegal" stuff there as I try to stay under 5TB storage.
Backup now says 2022/09/15 16:09:18 Failed to create file system for "jottacloud:/FTP": read metadata failed: error 423: no.jotta.backup.errors.FSQuotaException: Account is locked due to breach of terms and conditions (Account is locked.) Quote:

New host for FTP and WEB: ftp.grandis.nu
Due to the power cost these days, I can not continue running the TURRAN FTP from its current location. I've decided, after a tip from jcgeuze, to move it offsite. I've spent the last few weeks, on and off, to migrate everything over there. I'll instead send backups back "home" to grandis.nu and it will be ready to go back live if something happens at ftp.grandis.nu. So please change your URLs from grandis.nu to ftp.grandis.nu. Let me know of any problems. Oh, the new place only have 100Mb, so I've lowered the download rate of the anonymous "ftp" account to 500Kb/Sec. Otherwise it should all be the same. This will both take care of my power and hardware costs as well as function as a offsite backup again, since we lost Jottacloud for that function. "But if you are still sending it back "home", whats the difference if you have to have servers running there still anyway?" I'm using VMWare vSphere with 2-3 cluster nodes 24/7. The other machines running on it have been relocated as well so I can shut down the TURRAN ftp virtual machine and only send backups to a separate file server. This allows me to shut down the vSphere, saving a lot of power. While I appreciate the donations (see welcome message on the FTP), it is no where near what it costs in power to host the FTP. The new solution costs about $30 a month, plus an additional setup fee, so that should be more manageable. Last edited by Turran; 06 October 2022 at 18:53. |
