Awesome!
This is exactly what we need, replacement for old ICs.
We have the replacement boards, so... we are already saved... for the machine is immortal!

Is that a hint about what’s being cooked up in your magical lab?

8MB would require additional address lines and with 24bit addressing limit A500 and 2000 has (and, well, A1000 and CDTV, and A600) that would have to overlap fast ram (and ZII space). As for "availability" there are GOWIN FPGA with some models having embedded 16bit (or 32bit) pseudo static RAM ranging from 4MB to 16MB iirc. It's fairly cheap and might be worth a try.

Willoe will address as much of that RAM as we like and does not and cannot use the on-board ram anymore, it would be come vestigial

On the other hand, ReAgnus actually exists and works. Here's me playing Silkworm using it (ReAgnus in bottom/center of image).

Well Agnus is part of OCS/ECS and as seen that's A500 board so not AGA. There are plenty machines which can't handle 2MB chip ram without expensive (and extensive) rework - like all A500 rev5 (or earlier) but even rev6 can't do that with just what's on board. That's why Agnus replacement, especially with integrated 2MB+ CHIP RAM has bigger demand than AGA counterpart Alice. But of course all custom chips are more or less rare nowadays so when one fries there's need to replace it - why not with equivalent which has more functionality.
