Alas, I had inadvertently ordered ULN and not FLX so I wonder if it is too weak for cooling my A3000D with CS040 & CV64 combination in it..
The NF-A8 ULN is definitely too weak too cool your setup.
I would get it out asap as you risk overheating your machine. My setup is similar except for the 040 card and I definately need the cooling power of the NF-A8 PWM

Hmm.. I have NF-A8 PWM now inside and I am slightly unhappy with the outcome compared to ULN. The ULN was so much more silent than this PWM (which is running at full speed all the time btw). But I get the facts and this is far less loud than the original anyway.

Yeah, it is what it is. The A3000 desktop case can justy barely keep itself cool with the standard 030, let alone an 040.
Better a noisy A3000 than an dead A3000

I have an A3000 with a Cyberstorm MK3 060 50Mhz installed. Rev 1 060 so not a cooler Rev 6. It doesn't appear to get warm at all, at least the sides of the A3000 case are cold and the air coming out the back of the power supply fan is not really that warm...I also have an Elbox Mediator installed with Radeon 9250 and a RTL8139 network card...both of those cards don't get too hot I think...howerver I think the chips on the Mediator logic board can get hot. The original PSU fan is pushing out a healthy amount of air.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone have a list of capacitors in the original Amiga 3000 PSU?

This thing looks like it could be useful, is that a 40mm fan? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3533579

I have just ordered a NF-A8 ULN myself, but my machine is stock.

I *really* wouldn't recommend an ultra low noise fan in an A3000, even if stock.

Hmmm, don't know. The "problem" (if you can speak of a problem, maybe the A3000 does just fine with the limited cooling it has) is the backpressure in the cabinet.
Modern PC cabinets are very "open" to allow a lot of airflow.
The A3000 case is not like that so the fan is limited in its functionality. If we would want to improve cooling we would have to improve airflow by making the cabinet more "open".

Hi dalek, were you able to „take some measurements“, yet?
I don’t have the original psu and I’m switching the computer on via a switch on the back. I still have the pole from the button to the switch - so all I need is the position where I have to put the switch....

What parts of your setup gets hot? 040 card?

So I replaced NF-A8 FLX in my PSU with a NF-A8 ULN, the noise difference is HUGE. Now I can suddenly stand to use the machine.

I also had a NF-A6 FLX laying around, so I figured that maybe it will fit in the empty floppy bay. I added a 7V resistor to this one so it is almost silent but still gives airflow, sucking in cool air through the front bezel.

Now I have two fans but it's still way, way quieter than with the NF-A8 FLX. I will test the machine for a bit to see if it gets hot.

Ok old thread,
anyway, @Mathesar, did u power it internally in the PSU with the A3000 2-pin connector, or externally through some adapter?

I used the internal 2-pin connector.
