How to set up old wifi-B cards on A1200 without remove protection from your router

Most of the cards sold by different outlets are ancient Wifi cards that does not work with modern routers, unless you turn off security.

Is there a way to make a "network" just for the Amiga Wifi card, where the amiga has no access to the main network, but just to internet? In this way there is no way for anyone to hop on your network using the Amiga connection.

Create a Guest network on your router. Your Amiga will then be on a different subnet.

Thanks; would that be safe? The problem with old cards is that they use no encryption and same goes for the guest networks.

Also my router does not have config parameters for the settings except password and if you want to turn the guest network on and the network name... Which make me think that I can't set it to be using WEP.

For mine I used an ethernet card then a WiFi bridge which can better security. Works perfectly and isn't a strain on the Amiga as all it sees is an ethernet link.

I picked up an old DLink access point and hard wired to the home network. I use MAC security on the old access point to help with the massive security hole I created with WEP!

I gave up and bought a wired card, too many hoops to jump through with wireless, so got 2 origo gold or whatever theyre called in a cupboard somewhere. The wired 3com just works out of the box.

I use a variant of this:

VONETS VAP11G-300 Mini WiFi Bridge/Repeater/WiFi to Ethernet Adapter/WiFi Hotspot Extender Signal Booster AP 2.4GHz 300Mbps with 1 RJ45 Male DC/USB Powered for DVR IP Printer Network Devices https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B014J54D...ing=UTF8&psc=1

Works well. You could be extra clever and somehow power this from the Amiga lol.

Its true - but its risk/likelihood evaluation that folks need to make. My A1200 network requirements are ad-hoc at best.
