So confused by these Toaster versions of A3000 and A4000
I have an A4000 with a Toaster 4000, it has the Toaster logo on the front. How is it different from a vanilla A4000? Also I have seen an A3000 with a Video Toaster 4000, with two disk drives in the front, vs the one in the vanilla A3000.
What is going on? |

Differences --> Basically nothing.
Newtek covered up the C= Amiga logo's as they sold it as a Newtek Video Toaster system, not as an Amiga with a Newtek Video Toaster. They pre-installed the software/hardware etc so it was a turn key solution. Sure you could buy the individual bits and do it yourself but studios and production houses weren't interested in that - they wanted a box they plugged in, turned on and was ready to go. (A turnkey solution). C= were generally a little miffed about this but Newtek probably sold more high end Amiga's than Commodore's marketing department ever did. All 3000’s have two 3 1/2” drive bays, and many people opt to fill both of them, however, usually one is covered up by a plastic cover.

Would you say the Newtek edition is any less desirable from a collectible standpoint? |

NewTek 2000s and 4000s are/were somewhat common. A NewTek 3000 is not something I’ve seen before. Most Toaster users either wanted the 4000 for AGA or the 2000 for more slots. The 3000 has neither of those so it’s an unlikely OEM candidate. It’s possible what you have is a regular 3000 that a previous owner put a Toaster sticker on.
In fact, that’s all the OEM units were: preinstalled Toaster and pre-attached sticker. If you bought just a Toaster, you’d get the exact same sticker in the box (for the Toaster 4000, at least; not sure about original Toaster). Last edited by Matt_H; 01 July 2021 at 23:47. |

You know, I’m not sure, I’m one of these weird people who use my Amigas creatively and don’t think about the collectibility that much...I’d guess that to people who worked in video in the 90’s the toaster version would be more desirable as they’d have nostalgia for that one?
