Alternative to DiskSalv 4?
Hi guys, I recently had a hard disk crash which invalidated my hard disk, I have tried to use DiskSalv4 to recover the data, it has managed to salvage the files but when I open them up they are corrupted for example my audio samples and mods open but sound garbled. Is there an alternative to DiskSalv which is better at recovering files?

You can try OS3.1.4/3.2's DiskDoctor. Completely new program, has nothing to do with the miserable ancient thing shipped with OS1.x.

I always had much better and quicker results with ABTools (AmiBack) than with DiskSalv4 to fix broken FFS partitions and validation errors etc. But if some of the data has been overwritten with something else, nothing much can fix that.

DiskSalv4 is not 64-bit clean. If you were unlucky enough to run this on a large partition or large harddrive, it would either salvage junk, or trash your HD. Besides, on FFS (not OFS) partitions it misclassifies some data blocks as administration blocks, so can do all types of strange things.
Really, go for the latest DiskDoctor. |

Hi guys, I have tried to use the new DiskDoctor and when it is running it seems to be finding my files, which is promising, however when it is finished the DH1: is still unaccessible. Would I need to run DiskDoctor several times or do I need to use some hard disk validation software?

Please consult the documentation, e.g. by typing "help diskdoctor" in shell. |

Good. Messing with the original heavily damaged volume in order to continue using it is never a good idea, you always risk to damage it even further (either by repair tool, or later by filesystem implementation).
